DOOMED & STONED IN CANADA (VOL. II)
Eight years ago, Doomed & Stoned launched this groundbreaking series exploring the heavy underground rock and metal scene in various cities, states, and countries around the world. One of the first compilations was 'Doomed & Stoned in Canada' (2014), which remains the most downloaded compilation in the now 56-volumes strong collection.
Huge thanks to the nearly bands who participated in this portrait of the Canadian scene, though for many reasons we have honed our lens on doom metal and stoner rock, two styles that grew up together in the 1970s and show no signs of stopping as new generations of musicians enthusiastically explore the untapped musical "vocabulary" of these styles -- even innovated upon them, as many groups integrate elements of death, black, and progressive metal. The tracks are organized by band location, from East Coast to West.
Big ups to the Canadian team that assisted me with this compilation, namely Cameron Dalgetty, Jarret FuzzGöd Beach, and Brien Montgomery!
We've decided to give donations received for this compilation to the charity Orange Shirt Day (
www.orangeshirtday.org), an initiative of the St. Joseph Mission Residential School Commemoration Project and Reunion. The organization sparked a global conversation about residential schools following the tragic revelations of abused and killed native children in these institutions over the years. Please check out what they're doing, support, and share with others.
Thank you for your enthusiastic love for the series and for following up with the bands you dig to show them some love!
