fernandobenitez Ok, i shouldn't be reviewing this comp, since many of the bands i've played with have been included (will not mention their names here, obviously), but this rocks from start to finish. kudos to román and billygoat- superb job. mexican heavy rock (not metal) has had a hard time since the early 70's here in Mexico- back then it was due to a repressive government that hated hippies, nowadays it's because everything's so damn trendy no one cares outside a small (yet growing) circle of die-hards! Favorite track: The Call of the Woman.

For our third compilation, Doomed & Stoned ventures south of the border, as we begin a global quest to discover how "the Sabbath sound" and the developments of 70's psychedelic rock have impacted musical expression around the world, breaking through the barriers of language, ethnicity, politics, and isolated geographic locations. As it turns out, we find the allure of the heavy, slow 'n' low doom metal and stoner rock to resonate with people across cultures. Doomed & Stoned in Mexico is one fascinating case in point. For this project, Roman Tamayo of the band Vinnum Sabbathi has taken the lead in organizing a retrospective of influential and neglected bands in the heavy doom-stoner tradition, each with their own unique voice--some even incorporating indigenous elements to further contribute to the evolution of the genre. The collection spans more than four decades and includes bands that have broken through to modest recognition, along with the forgotten, neglected, and unknown bands of years past. Big thanks to Roman and to all the bands involved for contributing to this important and fascinating compilation!
