Sweden: land of ice and snow, often confused with Switzerland. A region known for the most prolific doom metal and stoner rock scene in the world. Situated in the northern part of Europe, during the cold winters the people lock themselves into rehearsal-rooms and create some of the most remarkable and influential music on record.

We are a friendly and polite people, but be careful what you say because we are sometimes scared to be too honest with each other and when you feel someone is crossing the line, we mighty cry out on the web instead of trying to sort things out in person. There are things Sweden does well, though, besides standing in line before entering the toilet and creating a sense of order and structure. All joking aside, I'm proud to say my country has become renowned for delivering some of the heaviest metal you're likely to hear anywhere else.

The first time I noticed Sweden had any doom bands was when I was given a cassette of the mighty Candlemass by a friend. I decided to sample the album before going to bed one night and listened to it until I fell fast asleep. Impressed, I bought a live record by Candlemass and I was hooked. The weightiness of the guitar, Messiah's voice, and the dark lyrics moved me. Sweden already had a great punk, hardcore, pop, and rock scene back then, but the voice of Messiah led me into the darker side.
